Failure to enhance character judged no bar to greenfield development

Despite an adopted core strategy policy dating from 2012 on the Isle of Wight which sought to ensure that development within and adjoining settlements should positively enhance the character of an area an inspector, in allowing an appeal for 86 dwellings, concluded that to resist development on this ground involving a greenfield site would be 'self-defeating'.
