Robin Cooper, deputy chief executive at Medway Council, will become chief executive of the urban development corporation (UDC) for the proposed Ebbsfleet garden city.

The corporation, which is due to have planning powers by July, has been set up to drive development of a new garden city in the area.

Chancellor George Osborne said last year that the development would have an initial 15,000 homes.
