Village capacity sufficient to accommodate more houses

A housebuilder in Hampshire has secured permission to erect 51 dwellings, an inspector being satisfied that a large village had sufficient capacity to absorb the development.

The settlement did not have a conservation area but included a range of shops and services, the inspector noted. There was a pressing need for more open market and affordable houses and it would deliver economic growth and increase the choice of housing. In his opinion, while there would be some impact on the highway network and the environment, these would be limited and did not significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits.
