Cheshire East Local Plan - Strategy submitted to Secretary of State (Examination update)

The Cheshire East Local Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State on 20 May 2014.

An examiner will be allocated and the strategy will then be inspected. Pre-hearing hearing meetings are expected to start in late July 2014.

Cheshire East Council published it's pre-submission core strategy for consultation between 5 November and 16 December 2013.

The consultation responses were then collected and used to inform the Local Plan Strategy - Submission Version that was available for further consultation held between 14 March and 25 April 2014.

Examination Update

An Examiner has been allocated and hearing sessions were held between 16 September and 3 October  2014 with more scheduled to take place  to take place on 7, 21 and 28 October 2014. However in an announcement made on the 3 October 2014 the Inspector adjourned the hearing sessions until December 2014.

Inspectors Announcement

The Inspector wrote to the Council on 6 November 2014 giving his interim views. The Inspector concluded that Cheshire East Council had three options. To continue with the examination which with the plan in its then current form the Inspector would most likely find unsound due to in his view pessimistic economic projections and insufficient housing supply.

The second option recommended by the Inspector would be to further delay the examination so the Council could undertake further work to rectify the plan. The third option given would have been to withdraw the plan.

Inspector's Interim Views

Further hearing sessions were held in October 2015 to address additional evidence produced by the Council. The Council have published their Local Plan proposed changes version that is available for consultation between 4 March 2016 and 19 April 2016.
