RTPI unveils Young Planner of the Year finalists

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has named the four planners who have made the shortlist for its Young Town Planner of the Year 2012/13 award.

RTPI member votes cast last month have whittled down the original 15 candidates long-listed in April to just four.

They are: Emma Evans of Alliance Planning; Matt McCrisken of the Department of the Environment in Northern Ireland; Iram Mohammed of Atkins Global; and Alison Wright of Savills.

All four will now go through to a round of interviews with a panel of senior planners.

The panel will be chaired by Department for Communities and Local Government chief planer Steve Quartermain and also includes TAYplan strategic development planning manager Pam Ewen and Atkins director of cities and urbanism Paj Valley.

RTPI head of marketing and communications Tino Hernandez said the field of candidates for the award had demonstrated that planning had "some of the most outstanding professionals in the early stages of their careers of any profession".

The winner will be announced at the RTPI Planning Awards for Excellence ceremony in London on 10 July.

Last year's winner, Nikola Miller, has now joined RTPI Scotland as a planning policy and practice officer.
