Planners perform well with new build design

Alex Morton's article regarding the quality of new build housing (Planning, 16 November, p12) couldn't be further from the truth. He obviously hasn't been near any new housing recently.

With so many regulatory burdens and input from everyone and their dog during the planning process, applications are strongly scrutinised. This, coupled with design criteria such as Building for Life, ensures highly efficient, good quality homes. Planners have done a great job in creating good, design-led housing schemes. Morton should get out from behind his desk and see how it is on the ground.
