Enterprise zones move on simplified plan rules

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has signed off 18 orders to create simplified planning regimes in the government's newly created enterprise zones.

Most zones are drawing up local development orders (LDOs) to grant automatic planning permission for certain kinds of development, such as new industrial buildings or a change to how existing buildings are used within specified areas.

According to the Department for Communities and Local Government, two-thirds of the 24 zones will have at least one LDO in place by the summer. As well as the 18 orders that Pickles has signed off, eight more have completed their public consultation stage and a further 40 are in the pipeline, it said.
