Poster unit turned down on road safety grounds

The display of a poster advertisement on the gable end of a disused industrial building in Liverpool has been denied consent because it would undermine highway safety.

The site lay on the approach to a tunnel. While the highway layout was relatively straightforward, the inspector was concerned that a curve in the road required drivers to give considerable attention to warning and byelaw signs. A poster above and to one side of the tunnel entrance cutting may be dangerously distracting, he found.
