Data Check - Percentage of total ERDF programme funding contractually committed

Nearly £1.2 billion of £2.9 billion - or 40 per cent - of the 2007-13 European Regional Development Fund spending round in England remains unallocated, according to an alliance of 60 local authorities representing industrial areas.

The funds can only be drawn down if they are matched by UK funding. Local authority association the Industrial Communities Alliance said that, following the announcement of the regional development agencies' abolition, potential sources of match funding have dried up.
