Macclesfield Town select development partner

Macclesfield Town Football Club has selected regeneration developer St Modwen as its development partner on its proposals to build a new stadium.

The npower League Two club wants to build a 7,000 capacity stadium alongside a mixed-use development.

The scheme would be situated on a 53 hectare site close to the club’s existing Moss Rose ground.

Macclesfield Town chairman Mike Rance said: "St Modwen is the ideal partner for a project that we hope will not only meet the needs of the club but will also bring substantial benefits for the local community."

The redevelopment is intended to incorporate a conference facility, a community sports and leisure complex, plus homes and shops.

A masterplan for the site, known as South Macclesfield Development Area, was adopted by Cheshire East Council in December last year.

Michelle Taylor, regional director at St Modwen, said: "We are delighted to be chosen by Macclesfield Town as its development partner in such an exciting project."
