Edinburgh development plan report published

The next stage in the City of Edinburgh Council's efforts to produce a development plan for the Scottish capital has been reached with the publication of a major report for consultation.

The publication of the Main Issues Report, which sets out Edinburgh council’s current thinking on the future development of the city, is the principal opportunity for the public to influence the content of Edinburgh’s local development plan (LDP).

The Main Issues Report covers areas such as housing, including sites designated for new development, infrastructure provision and economic development.

Edinburgh council planning leader Jim Lowrie said: "It’s vital we plan for the future so we can continue to support the growth of Edinburgh’s economy."

The City of Edinburgh Council has told ministers that it anticipates submitting its LDP to the Scottish Government for approval in mid-2013. It had previously said that it would submit its LDP in February 2013.
