Application in store Ikea subsidiary plans Olympic district

Retailer Ikea's development arm, LandProp, has announced that it will submit a hybrid planning application for a mixed-use development beside London's Olympic Park early next year.

The new neighbourhood, to be named Strand East, would cover 10.5 hectares and is intended to include 1,200 homes, 45,000 square metres of office space, a 350-bed hotel, plus shops, cafes and restaurants.

The first phase of development has already been granted planning permission, with Dane's Yard to host a new restaurant and a 40 metre high illuminated sculpture set within a public square.

The new plans, designed by architects ARC-ML, will be submitted to London Thames Gateway Development Corporation.
