Barton Willmore creates North West masterplanning team

Planning consultancy Barton Willmore has announced it is to set up a team of masterplanners in its Manchester office.

The Manchester office was opened in January to enable the practice to grow its business in the region, but Barton Willmore has now decided to expand the office to offer the full extent of its services from the city.

A spokeswoman for the company said although it could draw on masterplanning services from across the country, clients had been asking for a specific team to be based on the ground in Manchester.

The company is currently recruiting for the new team but it will be led by director Stephen Tucker, who also manages the masterplanning team in Edinburgh and will split his time between the two locations.

Tucker has worked on major regeneration and design projects for the last ten years, including projects such as the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village in Glasgow.

In the North West, Barton Willmore has devised the vision and masterplan for the former Whittingham Hospital site near Preston, the masterplan and landscape strategy at Chester Zoo and the former Alma Works site in Hyde.

Dan Mitchell, partner who heads up Barton Willmore’s Manchester office, said: "We have expanded quickly this year. The creation of a new masterplanning team is yet another string to our bow and will ensure we are able to offer clients the most complete planning and design service to our clients."
