The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Planning Awards 2011 celebrate planning projects that make major contributions to economic, social and environmental quality of life as well as the people that make them happen.
This year sees the launch of the Planning for Business Award, for which the judges will be looking for planning activities that meet the aspirations of commercial end users but also significantly contribute to the wider public interest.
Heritage, arts, culture and sport have been merged into a single category for 2011. Other categories cover sustainable communities, city and metropolitan areas, local regeneration and renewal, rural areas and the natural environment, the planning process, spatial strategies and the public realm.
The "people" categories will honour large and small consultancies, sole practitioners, young planners, students, academic excellence and employers' commitment to learning and professional development.
The deadline for entries is 31 May, apart from the award for outstanding student achievement, which is 15 July. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in February 2012.
