Westminster Core Strategy approved

Westminster City Council’s Core Strategy has been fully endorsed by a government inspector.

In her report the inspector stated that the Strategy "provides an appropriate basis for the planning of the Borough over the next 15 years" and "complies with the statutory and procedural requirements for the preparation of development plan documents".

Amongst other issues the 15-20 year plan looks at affordable housing, sustainable design and protecting the city's architectural heritage.

Cllr Robert Davis, Westminster City Council's deputy leader and cabinet member built environment, said:

"The Core Strategy unashamedly starts with this historic context, but also takes the opportunity to build on it wherever possible to better equip us for the future".

"The document recognises that one of Westminster’s most notable characteristics is a city that is constantly being renewed and improved."

The Strategy will now be adopted in January 2011. Further details can be found here.
