Group tables rail criticism

HS2 Action Alliance has added its voice to mounting opposition to the proposed high-speed rail link between London and Birmingham.

Alliance spokesman Julian Smyth-Osbourne believes that the government must answer six key questions which suggest that High Speed 2 is unaffordable, uneconomic and environmentally destructive, fails to tackle rail capacity problems and will exacerbate the north-south divide.

The government is due to consult on its preferred route in the new year. Earlier this month a campaign group advised by law firm SJ Berwin called on the government to pursue a lawful consultation on the rail link.
