Go-ahead for Chester Zoo revamp

Barton Willmore has been granted the go-ahead for the Natural Vision redevelopment of Chester Zoo, after communities secretary Eric Pickles decided not to call in the plans.

The £225 million scheme is expected to take up to 15 years and includes plans for a Heart of Africa biodome, an expansion of the main entrance building, a hotel and additional car parking.

Barton Willmore provided planning, masterplanning and landscape design support for the scheme.

The consultancy also secured planning permission on behalf of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association for the regeneration of part of Southglade Park in Nottingham into a health facility.

The site will house a 900m2 health centre with space for up to six doctors' consulting rooms, three nurses' rooms, two treatment rooms and a pharmacy. There will also be associated landscaping and designated car parking.
