The scheme was rejected in August by the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority amid concerns about its environmental and visual impact.
Since then talks between the company and the park about a revised application have gone well, according to Scotgold. However, they are unlikely to be completed before the 18 November deadline for an appeal.
"The company believes that it would be prudent in the meantime to preserve its position by lodging an appeal," a company spokesman explained. Scotgold hopes to extract up to 567kg of gold a year.
