Farrell appointed for Holborn masterplan

Architect and urban designer Sir Terry Farrell is to spearhead a regeneration masterplan for the Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Giles district of London.

The Business Improvement District that represents the area, inmidtown, has engaged Farrell to draw up a framework for how London’s central business district can be revitalised, including a detailed plan for delivery.

It aims to work with the London Borough of Camden, the mayor and Transport for London.

Farrell said: "I look forward to working with inmidtown and its business members to set out a real and achievable framework for change in this fascinating area of London - set between Holborn Circus and St Giles Circus and centred on the historic crossroads at Holborn.

"London must build on the existing assets, qualities and characters that make this an already successful commercial hub to ensure it becomes a world class urban quarter, complete with world class public realm."

Farrell will draw up the framework for change document over the next nine months, and it will be released for consultation in spring 2011.
