National park chair takes quality focus

Carl Lis has been appointed chairman of the UK Association of National Park Authorities, which represents the country's 15 parks.

Lis is currently chairman of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. He was re-elected in July last year having served from 2004 to 2008. He joined the authority in 1996 and was awarded an OBE for his services to the communities of North Yorkshire last year.

"It's a real privilege to be elected chairman of the association, a forum where all the national parks get together and promote the qualities of the finest UK landscapes," Lis said.

The organisation aims to promote the national parks as beacons for sustainable development and raise the profile, understanding and relevance of these protected landscapes.

It also provides training and development opportunities for national park authority members and staff and promotes closer working with protected landscapes in the UK and internationally.
