DC Casebook: Commercial and Industrial - Storage containers agreed at caravan site

The installation of 20 storage containers on a caravan and camping site in Warwickshire has been allowed after an inspector ruled that it would not have an unacceptable impact on local character.

The site could accommodate more than 300 caravans and motor homes. The appellant proposed to remove 70 caravans to make way for the containers. Their impact would be limited because they would be painted dark green and screened by hedges, the inspector decided. In his view, the impact of people visiting the site to drop off or collect stored items would not be materially different from trips associated with the caravan site.
