As one of the main sponsors alongside the Welsh Assembly Government, Savills' Cardiff head of planning Geraint John came along with a few words to welcome young planners to Cardiff. Also present was RTPI president Ann Skippers, who finally worked her way through the young planners to the buffet.
After an intensive first day at the conference, more than 100 delegates attended the formal dinner in the Presidential Suite of the Millennium Stadium. The after-dinner speaker was Vale of Glamorgan Council chief executive John Maitland Evans, who gave a witty and cutting interpretation of what localism really means.
The final evening was billed as a Gavin and Stacey pub crawl. In true style it fell well short of the mark with only four pubs in six hours.
All in all the social events brought together young planners in a way that would make Facebook proud.
