Go-ahead for Mitcham homes

Crest Nicholson, in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and the London Borough of Merton, has exchanged on the purchase of the land and secured detailed planning permission for the development of a 6ha former brownfield site in Mitcham.

The site was previously the location of the Rowan High School but has been redundant for several years. The plans will see 217 homes and a public park built on the site.

The consent also allows for the provision of a scout hut, community facility and medical centre. This is the last of the sites allocated under the government's Design for Manufacture competition organised by English Partnerships and will be developed using the principles of energy-efficient design-led construction.

Work will start in January.
