At the first session of the Commons communities and local government committee inquiry into the impact of the abolition of regional spatial strategies, MP Bob Blackman asked about the risks of undesirable development coming forward as a result of the new homes bonus.
Planning Officers Society cabinet member Catriona Riddell said councils would have to work within guidelines. "The problem might be in the interim with no framework in place," she said.
Roger Tym & Partners partner Cristina Howick suggested that local enterprise partnerships could provide a strategy. "I would like new legislation to make these permanent," she said. The next session is on Monday.
