Golf backing claim denied

The Scottish Government has denied a claim that Donald Trump was told he had its support after plans for his golf resort were rejected by a council committee.

"The issue was determined according to the due process of the local inquiry," said a spokeswoman. "The local government and communities committee report in March 2008 notes: 'The chief planner and planning minister John Swinney acted in accordance with planning laws.'"

First minister Alex Salmond was also entitled to meet the Trump Organisation after Aberdeenshire Council's infrastructure services committee rejected the Menie Estate proposal in his capacity as constituency MSP, the government added. The £750 million scheme is now under construction.
