Sustainability guide joins property rules

Leading property organisations have launched the first industry-wide guide on how to measure and report on the sustainability of buildings.

The Green Property Alliance seeks to encourage owners, occupiers, planners, developers, designers and the government to use a common language of measurement on energy and water use and waste generation in commercial buildings.

"The report will hopefully encourage convergence in the basic building blocks of the main frameworks the industry uses so buildings can be compared no matter which framework they use," maintained alliance working group chairman Paul Edwards.

UK Green Building Council chief executive Paul King said: "This work establishes consensus across a diverse range of organizations and is an important step in the right direction."
