Society lists system ideas

The London branch of the Planning Officers Society has written to the government to help boost the credibility of the planning system for the public.

In his letter to communities secretary Eric Pickles, branch chairman Mike Kiely lists suggestions to improve the system. The ideas cover the three main areas of spatial planning, development management and planning enforcement.

The society maintained that there is far too much red tape in the local development framework system and has called for evidence to be put into perspective. It also wants the London Plan to make more account of local borough issues.

The letter adds: "Planning enforcement is often the area where the planning system gets credibility or not from the public."
