Tesco arm in Kirkby plan

Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners (NLP) has submitted an outline planning application for a retail-led regeneration of Kirkby town centre on Merseyside.

The application was made on behalf of Tesco's regeneration arm Spenhill - which had a larger scheme for the area rejected last year (Planning, 4 December 2009, p2).

The proposal includes a Tesco Extra store, shops, a library, a health clinic and restaurants. There will also be improvements to the public realm and transport.

NLP director Steven Butterworth said: "It will transform and regenerate the town centre to ensure that it properly fulfils its role through significant improvement to the quality and quantity of the retail offer and associated development."
