Marston link idea studied

Transport consultancy JMP is working on proposals to reopen 8km of rail line to be included in Warwickshire County Council's local transport plan.

The firm is working with the Shakespeare Line Promotion Group (SLPG) to develop a case to reopen track between Stratford-upon-Avon and Long Marston in Warwickshire.

The original line was closed in the Beeching era, but 5km of track was retained at the Honeybourne end in Worcestershire and provides access from the Oxford-Worcester line to serve the former Long Marston Royal Engineers depot.

The remainder is a leisure route for cyclists and walkers. Reopening would involve upgrading the existing track through to Honeybourne.
