Brendan is a skilled economist with a particular interest in how business and productivity growth can be supported with targeted investment and infrastructure development. This interest stemmed from his studies in economic resilience and adaptation at Newcastle University, where he graduated with a first class degree.
Brendan has advised numerous public sector bodies about the growth potential of business sectors and major infrastructure development. This has included advising Welsh Government and Isle of Anglesey County Council on the impacts of the proposed Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station, supporting Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership to prioritise infrastructure needed to support growth, and identifying the employment land needs of high growth sectors and business clusters for a number of Local Authorities in the

He was Deputy Prime Minister from 1995 to 1997. He is the founder and Chairman of the Haymarket Group, one of the largest privately owned media companies in the UK.
