The RTPI's conduct and discipline panel has found a consultant member to be in breach of the code of professional conduct by failing to issue a written fee agreement and written terms of engagement prior to commencing work.
This gave rise to some confusion in identifying the correct client name to be entered on a planning application. The code provides that before commencing work on any commission members shall ensure that their written terms of engagement have been agreed and that clients are notified in writing of any fees to be incurred prior to undertaking the work. The panel found that the member had breached the code and prejudiced his reputation and that of the institute. As a result the panel agreed to warn the member as to his future conduct without naming him in the published report.
For more information of the code of professional conduct, please email sandra.whitehead@rtpi.org.uk.
