Winning bids announced for European spatial research programme

Planning, 1 August 2008

Dumfries and Galloway Council, North Yorkshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government are among UK administrations to have research requests accepted by the European Spatial Planning Observation Network's applied research programme.

The organisation will contract researchers to develop a transferable assessment of the development potential of remote rural regions, working closely with the UK authorities and others from Norway and Latvia.

Manchester Enterprises has secured funding for targeted research that will enable it to assess the impact of urban agglomeration on economic development potential. It will work with partners in Barcelona, Dublin and Lyon to ensure that the researchers deliver outputs directly relevant to city policy-making.
