Planning, 1 August 2008

Planning Summer School

29 August-10 September. University of St Andrews.

Three schools will be held over the programme period. All will show the critical link between planning and practice, interaction between partners for a common purpose and connections with best practice and new thinking in the UK and abroad. The agenda will include plenary papers and discussion sessions, workshops and case studies.

- Planning and Sustainable Design

10 September. RTPI South West. Dartington Hall, Totnes.

Presentations from architects, urban designers and planners will consider the various roles in creating quality places. This will cover how good design and planning can contribute to sustainable development and whether PPS1 has made any difference.

10 September. North East Young Planners Network. Trafalgar Street, Newcastle.

This evening seminar sponsored by Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners will set out the requirements of PPS3 and their implications for housing, particularly in the North East.

- Street Planning and Design

17 September. RTPI Yorkshire. Leeds.

Following publication of the Manual for Streets last year, this conference will explore the implications at local level for policy, guidance and practical implementation. Ideas such as shared space and mixed-use streets in urban areas will be discussed.
