Housing minister Caroline Flint has visited two proposed eco-town sites at Pennbury near Leicester and Middle Quinton near Stratford-upon-Avon.
As part of her on-going ‘tour’ of the 15 short-listed eco-town sites she spoke to developers about their plans and talked to local councillors and residents about their thoughts on the programmes.
Around 200 protesters congregated outside Harborough District Council in Leicestershire to protest at the plans and at Middle Quinton around 50 protesters jeered Ms Flint.
Speaking after her Pennbury visit, Flint said: "It has been very important for me today to hear the views of different groups, and to see the proposed site for myself.
"There is certainly no 'done deal' for developers, and I think today's meeting has helped underline that fact. There is clearly a need for more housing in the region, but there will be a further consultation before deciding up to ten potential locations for eco-towns across the country."
