Eco-town announcement 'still on target'

Leon Walker, Regen.net, 7 July 2008

The announcement of where ten eco-towns will be created is still scheduled to be made this autumn the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) said this week, despite press reports suggesting that it could delay the declaration until early 2009.

Housing minister Caroline Flint was reported by the website Estates Gazette Interactive to have last week told a meeting of campaign groups fighting the developments that the selection of the final ten sites may not be made until early 2009.

A DCLG spokesman could not confirm or deny Flint's comments. But he told Regen.net that the department still expects an autumn announcement.
