North Northamptonshire

Introduction and mission statement

North Northamptonshire is at the heart of England.  It comprises four of the Northamptonshire local authorities - Corby, East Northamptonshire, Kettering and Wellingborough, and has a combined population of over 290,000.

As part of the Milton Keynes and South Midlands Growth Area we are planning for 60,000 new homes and 50,000 jobs over the next 25 years.  Already, major developers are investing in the area and a new urban regeneration company, North Northants Development Company, has been established to coordinate the delivery of growth alongside the infrastructure, services and high quality environment essential to create sustainable communities.

The planning authorities face an exciting challenge - how to accommodate major growth in a way that protects what people like most about North Northamptonshire, its countryside and attractive rural areas, and at the same time improves parts of its urban areas and particularly some of its town centres.

Employment opportunities

The four districts and the county council have formed a ground-breaking partnership, the North Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit, to prepare the core spatial strategy for the area.  This will promote sustainable urban extensions, town centre development, green infrastructure and demanding design standards so as to make North Northamptonshire a benchmark for green living.

Along with joint work on the core spatial strategy, the districts are preparing more detailed site specific plans and dealing with major applications, whilst the county is progressing waste and minerals plans and applications for new roads and schools. The councils are recruiting to meet these challenges and are also looking to build on the success of the Joint Planning Unit by pooling skills and resources.

North Northamptonshire has a huge amount to offer, whether you are taking the first steps of your career or already have extensive experience and skills.  For professional challenges we are hard to beat: involvement in nationally significant projects; opportunities to work across four districts; engaging with local communities; seeing the results of your efforts in changing North Northamptonshire for the better.  North Northamptonshire is in an excellent central location and offers an outstanding quality of life with homes to suit all tastes and budgets.  You'll find modern towns surrounded by picturesque villages rich in heritage and a vast rural landscape.  Whether you enjoy quiet walks in the countryside or the cut and thrust of motor-sports, thereÕs something for you in North Northamptonshire.

Training and career development

Alongside a challenging and varied workload, the councils can offer training opportunities for professional qualifications and Continuing Professional Development.  We need to attract and keep the best, and aim to provide a career path within North Northamptonshire to make sure that you can grow with us.
