Introduction and mission statement

King's Lynn and West Norfolk is the sixth largest borough in the country. Much of our borough is designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The West Norfolk coastline is a mass of sand dunes, reed beds and clear horizons. KingÕs Lynn, our regional centre has maintained its thriving commercial heart and prosperity. While the winding streets and alleys of the old town remain intact, King's Lynn boasts an extensive, pedestrianised shopping area, with a lively combination of national retailers, specialist shops and family businesses.

As a service, we cover all developments in our diverse area balancing the communities need for development with the need to protect our unique environment. This creates a variety of challenges in the contrast between major regeneration and redevelopment proposals with the need to preserve our rich natural and built heritage. Our community will always be at the centre of everything we do, we've established a Local Development Framework to guide, grow and develop the borough to 2021.

• We have 12 posts within Planning Control and 10 within Planning Policy;
• We handle an average of 2,600 applications each year;
• West Norfolk has 1,900 listed buildings and 42 conservation areas, so we have opportunities for planners with experience of conservation and design.

Vacancies are most frequently at junior level and represent an excellent opportunity to develop you career within an ambitious team. On occasion, we do need to recruit more qualified Planning staff.
