Appeal body studies skills

The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) has commissioned a survey to help it determine its future recruitment strategy ahead of the latest reforms to the system.

The appeals body has asked Addison & Associates and the University of Westminster to identify areas of professional skills that could contribute to the challenges it faces.

PINS will see its remit change under the Planning Bill, which aims to set up an infrastructure planning commission to decide major projects and possibly local member review boards for minor appeals. The survey will seek views for professional bodies to identify potential pools of future staff.

A spokesperson said: "We aim to recruit the best candidates from a wide pool of talent. It is simply good practice to understand where to target recruitment and this survey will help us to identify where to find candidates in the future." PINS currently employs 363 inspectors.
