The University of Hertfordshire is to hold an intensive week-long public planning workshop, or charrette, aimed at pioneering a fresh approach in the county.
The first of its kind in England, the charrette will bring together members of the public, the private and the public sectors to consider ways to raise standards and ensure that future development wins public support by reflecting their aspirations.
The exercise will be led by urban planner Andres Duany from Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company. Duany was the principal designer behind the planned town of Tornagrain in the Scottish Highlands, for which a charrette was also held.
Workshops and meetings will be held at the university later this month.
