The UK's 16 million gardeners had the opportunity to wallow in collective outrage over the loss of green space to development courtesy of a Friday evening television double bill. First up was Channel 4's The Insider: Gardens Under Threat, with presenter Matt James declaiming: "Precious urban greenery is being lost at a quite terrifying rate." Solihull MP Lorelei Burt waxed sarcastic about plans for a superstore on land occupied by a rare ring of oak trees: "We only have six supermarkets in the area, so we really do need a giant Asda." James concluded: "Our spaces are under so much pressure it is as though a bunch of hawks is circling overhead."
