Gummer on... the rise of the weekenders

Inevitably, most MPs are second homeowners. The week in London is followed by a long weekend in the constituency, doing the surgery and house calls. Although I love this, I am not unaware of the issue of second homes when there is such a shortfall of first homes. We need 290,000 new homes a year but are only building 160,000, with a government target of 200,000 by 2015. Even if we hit that, we will continue to lose ground every year.
