Emergency renewal work on the Blackpool tramway

Emergency renewal work on the Blackpool tramway has secured £10.7 million of government funding following a review by Steer Davies Gleave. The company, appointed by Blackpool Borough Council and Lancashire County Council, concluded that without significant investment much of the service would have to close. The Department for Transport will provide investment for the first two years of a modernisation plan. The cash will be spent on urgent track renewal and electrical infrastructure work at Fleetwood.
