Wildlife park opened by David Bellamy

A wildlife park on the site of a former North Tyneside colliery was opened by David Bellamy last week. The £5 million project has transformed the 60ha Weetslade Colliery into a wildlife area and community green space with a network of footpaths and cycleways. The Weetslade Country Park project was managed by One North East with funding from English Partnerships' national coalfields programme. The colliery ceased coal production in 1966.
