Landfill applications will be approved

Planning applications for three regional landfills will be approved to meet the "urgent need" for waste disposal facilities in the Belfast area and the eastern part of Northern Ireland, environment minister Angela Smith declared last week. The sites are at Cottonmount in Newtownabbey and quarries at Mullaghglass in the Belfast Hills and Aughrim near Lisburn.
