Gravesend Canal Basin regeneration programme

More than 50 boats are being lifted out of the Gravesend Canal Basin in Kent in the first stage of work on a £120 million regeneration programme. The Embankment mixed-use development will produce 1,000 homes, shops, leisure facilities and business premises. The canal is being used as a catalyst for the scheme, which will eventually allow larger boats to be moored. Around 20,000m3 of silt deposited on the basin floor will be dredged this winter.
