Regeneration News Brief: Wigan is set to benefit ...

Wigan is set to benefit from a £6 million dual carriageway link road that was approved by the government last week. Transport secretary Alastair Darling gave the go-ahead to Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council to introduce compulsory purchase orders in the Chapel Lane and Poolstock areas of the town to pave the way for the A5225 link road. The route will create better access to the town's Westwood Park, which is set to become a site for business premises. The council is inviting tenders for the road building contract and work is expected to begin next year.
