In brief: Swing bridge given planning permission

A pedestrian swing bridge over the Stainforth and Keadby Canal in Thorne, South Yorkshire, has been granted planning permission by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. The bridge, designed by Broadway Malyan and Buro Happold, is sponsored by the Thorne and Moorends Regeneration Partnership. It will reinstate the link between two sides of the Thorne community. A previous swing bridge was replaced by a flyover for the A614, which proved unpopular with pedestrians.
