Business brief: Walkergate Music Station to be designed by Ian McChesney Ltd

The Walkergate Music Station in Durham will be designed by Ian McChesney Ltd. The firm's scheme was chosen from a shortlist that included Adjaye Associates, Niall McLaughlin Architects and Mosedale Gillatt Architects in the Durham City Arts competition. The design will reinvent the Walkergate Music Station as a traditional bandstand and is intended to enhance a pedestrianised area in the city. Walkergate is a proposed mixed-use development that will occupy the site between the River Wear and the Gala Theatre complex.
