Interview: Maximising leverage

Housing Corporation chairman Peter Dixon is keen to use the planning system to increase output and efficiency in delivering affordable homes, writes Chris Griffin. Peter Dixon first became involved with planning in the mid 1970s, when he chaired the planning applications committee at the London Borough of Islington. "I stood for Labour in 1971 because I was politically engaged and many things were wrong in Islington. Curiously, working in the City brought it home to me that I was still an old-fashioned lefty," he recalls.
