In brief: Development of landfill site in north Wales to go ahead

The development of a landfill site in north Wales will go ahead after Wrexham County Borough Council lost its bid to prevent the scheme this week. Developer Mersey Waste Holdings won its appeal against the local authority's non-determination of its revised application to redevelop the Hafod quarry next to the village of Johnstown. The inspector ruled that an existing permission for a dump on the site dating back to 1995 means that there are no grounds for the authority to refuse the smaller revised scheme.
